Bushings or Bearings?

How do bushings and bearings work?
Bushings are round, cylindrical components most commonly used for applications with sliding shafts. Bearings are similar in concept, with both having the task of reducing friction between moving parts, supporting units that turn or move relative to one another, and facilitating smooth movement to benefit the life of your HVAC system. Ultimately, they help ease the wear and tear caused by movement.
What’s the difference between the two?
To put it simply, a bushing is a bearing but a bearing isn’t technically a bushing.
Though they are similar, there are some differences between the two. Bearings are typically comprised of two or more components, while bushings are usually a one-part deal. Also called plain bearings or sleeve bearings, bushings allow for sliding movement and operate as a means to support the shaft. Bearings on the other hand cover more ranges of movement and are more suited for environments where machinery is operating in high-stress, high-speed environments.
